Transforming an integrated Awareness Feature is complete

Keith Mckenzie • June 25, 2025

A transformation in developing an online integrated feature (which includes Understanding, statistics & customised projects) is complete

Within the past 18 months, a process has been made to combine two separate online features into the new Awareness Focus feature.

This involves integrating content previously appeared on the Understanding series feature, (focusing on Understanding information and statistics ) as part of the expanded Awareness Focus Feature (which focuses on customised projects, information & articles)

The feature includes:
Customised sections
A family of customised mini index sections which present projects, information and articles focusing on customised areas of specific difficulties and diversity

Understanding webpages
A family of understanding webpages focusing on the human aspects of certain difficulties related to hidden differences. Including ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Social Anxiety. It also contains understanding information for PDA and women with hidden differences.

Statistics
Containing facts & figures for the UK & worldwide for ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Social Anxiety

The process
Redesign the customised sections
This includes redesigning the customised mini index and incorporating the new visual language design system. This affects pages including Autism Focus, ADHD Focus, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia Focus and Social Anxiety Focus

In addition, the customised projects webpage has been modified to improve links with the customised mini index pages.

Transferring understanding & statistics
The understanding & statistics webpages have been redesigned and gradually transferred to the new Awareness Focus feature presented as "The Guide" & "Facts & Figures"

Linked customised articles
Customised insight articles which focus on specific difficulties now appear within the customised mini index pages.

Expanding customised sections
The customised mini index pages were expanded to include Neurodiversity and Multicultural with Hidden Differences.

Design presentation

As part of the big changes, the new integrated awareness feature was redesigned with a new unified design presentation. This includes a new design language system to distinguish different areas of hidden differences along with different aspects of diversity. This involves the removal of the colour coding system after negative feedback from Neurodivergent and Awareness experts. The new design presentation appears on all pages of the Combined Awareness Focus feature, along with social media templates and online projects linked with customised & diverse areas of hidden differences.

Next step

Further plans to expand the Awareness Focus feature with more customised index pages including Diversity & equality, invisible disabilities and All disability editions
