An update on my action against the previous government on the remarks towards disabilities.
Back in May, my original complaint was made against three former conservative government ministers for disrespectful and offensive remarks towards disabilities related to welfare reform. Also how I was not informed of my previous involvement in their previous consultation in September and October of 2023 on changes to the
Work Capability Assessment.
Since then, I received their reply in June 2024; however, I was not impressed by their responses. They showed no acknowledgement of the offence and the offence and stigma caused. I was provided an online to the previous government responses on the consultation of the Capability Assessment. Even though I published two documents on my responses and suggestions, all of my expressions and suggestions were completely rejected.
I was extremely disappointed that my voice was ignored, despite my efforts.
Complaint review
As I was not happy with the former government's response, I requested a complaint review in July 2024 as the former failed to acknowledge offensive remarks towards disabilities without context and any stigmatising implications.
I have provided some updates on this matter to my Local M.P's with a new Representation publication. I have also the team my further actions since the June 2024 response.
I felt very strongly that I feel that public figures and key people in government have constantly misrepresented people with invisible disabilities including neurological difficulties (including welfare recipients).
I have published an insight document on different factors of lack of representation that leads to bad decisions which can harm the circumstances of a person with invisible disabilities including neurological difficulties. The document also addresses the stigma of invisible disabilities, including neurological difficulties, with the news articles in the press & media.
The M.P fully sympathetic to my further action and fully understand the issues discussed and addressed in my Representation publication
I am waiting for a reply to my complaint, which should be responded to during September or October 2024.
Watch out for further updates via this website and via social media.
