Special Developments
Representation Publication
A special awareness publication has been made regarding a matter I am personally passionate about.
During 2024, I have taken some actions with comments and remarks not only to misrepresent people with specific difficulties but also to cause a lot of negative stigma.
I have written a special insight and analysis document on the matter of representation. This is regarding the irresponsible remarks and comments which not only stigmatise people with specific difficulties but also can lead to bad decision-making that could cause harm to a person's circumstances.
The document covers matters related to government public authorities, parliaments, and the media.
I feel that there is a lack of responsibility between misrepresentation and considering the negative implications based on inappropriate remarks & actions.
The background
The document was created after taking action in 2024 against the previous government, with a number of cabinet ministers, along with the former Prime Minister, making offensive and irresponsible remarks that not only cause negative stigma but can inflame priority discrimination and hatred. This was regarding specific people with invisible disabilities with remarks that trivialise their difficulties and their challenges along with false interpretations of lifestyle and threatening remarks.
I feel this is the heart of the misrepresentation problem, which undermines every person's existence with specific difficulties.
The matter was extended after I took action against a newspaper article featured in the Telegraph newspaper in December 2024. We were a headline that wrongly stigmatises all autistic men. This was caused by the irresponsible remarks of disgraced television personality Greg Wallace.
There was a version in this document that included my personal experiences of stigma. This was sent to my local MP at the time, Stephen McCabe, before he retired in July 2024.
In late 2024, I created a version of this document for the general public that was shared in December 2024 with my current local MP, Al Calms, who became elected in July 2024 onwards.
Since January 2025 this document would become available to anyone to download and read.
I will continue to share this document when necessary when addressing this matter which I feel is not addressed enough. I feel this is an important tool to enable a culture change which stops stigmatising people with specific difficulties for the wrong reasons.
